This week I’m still in the waiting process of going abroad. It’s getting closer though, but it still doesn't feel real and I’m not sure it will until I’m actually going. Although I've found excitement comes in the strangest of ways. Like I was talking to my boss earlier today and she said “Kacy it’s going to be weird having you here all the time and then you’re just gone." I’m not sure why but her saying it clicked in my mind.. Whoa! I’m really doing this; I am going to be gone from this campus and from this country in less than three weeks. With my GO excitement intact I went and took pictures of some GO related places around campus. I found myself photographing the international flags in Mellon and the giant map of the world in the staircase. I decided to photograph these places because students and people walk by them every day, but do they ever stop and appreciate what they represent? I know in the hustle and bustle of everyday it easy not to stop and appreciate the little things, but being “on” campus these last two weeks have made me see what I've been missing.
In the giant map each string and pin represents all the places SU students can and have went for their go experiences. I can look up at the map find New Zealand and say for this next semester that little pin on the world is me.
NZ Fact of the week: If you go to Google maps and search Selinsgrove, PA to Wellington, NZ-- First Google thinks you’re crazy because who tries to drive across the world... but then you click flying and it will tell you the travel time from Pennsylvania to New Zealand take an easy 1 day and 3 hours.
